Pinteon Part 5: The Table Reading
A joyful, creative experience!
As promised, a Pinteon update following the show’s first table reading last weekend! I love table readings (this is my second time doing one). They are such a fun way to hear your show all the way through for the first time, surrounded by friends and loved ones.
I was SO fortunate for this table reading to have not only my creative circle of folks, and other friends I care about from different parts of my life, but also two pre-teen/teenage actors! Since Pinteon is a children’s musical, it was wonderful to hear parts read by the appropriate ages, as well as to see what they delighted in and hear their feedback.
Overall this felt like a very successful reading. I came away with notes and ideas of things to adjust, but overall the flow was great! I especially loved seeing everyone’s reactions - whether through emojis on the Zoom feed, or laughter, or dancing to the music (always a good sign).
Some takeaways for me -
I have one song I’m looking to replace with a new one, and I’m already working on an idea for it! I think it will help the flow of the ending to feel like it has the emotional arc and energy I’m looking for.
My show needs a pronunciation guide for the silly character names I’ve invented, lol.
Do more readings with kids!
I’m ready for some professional feedback, and am excited to be able to get some soon through Musical Writers.
I’ve also been reflecting that something about a children’s musical at a length of 45 minutes also feels so much more digestible for me. I’m able to wrap my mind around the whole thing at once, in comparison to a full-length adult musical that is over twice that length. I’m grateful to Pinteon for giving me the chance to experience that feeling right now.
I also get to be one of those annoying people that’s says, I have an exciting new update about my show that I can’t share online just yet! But I promise to send you a message via the Starlight when it becomes public.
Thank you to everyone who is supporting me on this journey. Whether you participated in the table reading or subscribe to Under the Starlight at any level, you are helping me on my journey to make my creative dreams come true and I am so grateful!
